Shard-The Power of Inner Dynamics is not your typical sales office. Qun Wen's design is more inclusive and open, allowing for a unique interaction with people. The different components of the building are seen as connecting and composing an integral structure, while paradoxically exposing a horizon of disconnection that links significant places to the city. This design's unique properties lie in its ability to connect and disconnect, creating a dynamic and engaging environment.
The design was realized through the unit components of an aluminum thousand paper crane on the facade, creating its own works of art in the city and injecting new vitality into the urban landscape. The building's specifications include a building area of 3000 sqm, with a width of 82300 mm, a depth of 24600 mm, and a height of 23600 mm. The design team, which includes Wen Qun, Gao Shixin, Li Jiarui, Li Gen, Liu Liuqing, and Wang Ye, worked collaboratively to bring this innovative design to life.
Located in Chongqing, China, the project started in October 2019 and finished in March 2020. The design is based on an existing building, with the renovation seeking to form a background of hope for the existing building containing the folk art collection. The entire site is reorganized around the nexus of a new topography, connecting the city back onto itself.
Despite the challenges, including the different natural environment, cultural atmosphere, and project positioning, the design team focused on the interaction between architecture and nature, architecture and society, and architecture and people. The Shard was designed to interact with people in a more inclusive and open way, emphasizing its artistry through the use of the unit components of the aluminum thousand paper crane on the facade.
The design's aim is to create events for Chongqing city by taking architecture as the carrier, driving the public's sense of participation and interaction, and bringing vitality to the community and society. This design, which combines the functions of a sales office and gallery, is a testament to Qun Wen's innovative and forward-thinking approach to architecture and design.
